The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Rollingstone.com ran an article today announcing the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2012. Nominated for the first time are:
-Guns n' Roses
-The Cure
-Heart
-Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
-Eric B. and Rakim
-The Spinners
-The Small Faces/Faces
-Freddie King and Rufus with Chaka Khan

Previous nominees up for this year are:
-Beastie Boys
-Red Hot Chili Peppers
-Laura Nyro
-War
-Donovan

Is it just me, or does this seem like a ridiculously easy choice? They only take 5 nominees to induct every year, and my list is
-RHCP
-Beastie Boys
-Guns n' Roses
-The Cure
-Heart/Joan Jett

Let's break down why these 4 shouldn't even be questioned and the contest between the last one.

*My number one pick for this is Red Hot Chili Peppers. This is a band that has been constantly reinventing itself to stay relevant since the 80's, and with the exception of that one terrible album in the mid-90's, they've done an outstanding job. RHCP is not only the best musical act on this list, but they are arguably one of the greatest bands in the world.
*Beastie Boys are a close second because they also work to stay relevant, but with a varying degree of success. Their shaky relevance is totally overshadowed, however, by their contribution to rap music. Not only did they pioneer the art of sampling, they belong in the Hall of Fame for simply showing that hip hop can be appreciated by anyone, even three Jewish kids from New York.
*Guns n' Roses and The Cure are on the map for similar reasons: they made their genre accessible for more people. GnR was hair metal for everyone, and The Cure sired any emo band you see today. Whether this is for better or worse, they certainly were influential, and isn't that who you want in a hall of fame?
*My only confliction is with the Heart/Joan Jett competition. I picked both of them because they both epitomize girl rock in a big way. Joan Jett was edgy girl-punk, and Heart let the world know that women can shred too. I really can't make up my mind.

This is just a thought that I had when I saw the list earlier today. I think that Beastie Boys and RHCP are long overdue for a spot in the Hall of Fame, and some of these others are solid picks. If you have any ideas or arguments, please feel free to leave them in the comments.
